Sunday Special…

With today being the beginning of Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, plus the day on which I usually celebrate ancestral Sunday, something about today feels lovely and auspicious…

I’ve had a lovely unexpected visit from my sister and we shared a delicious raw food lunch and we got talking about food in general, especially from our childhood. We have both had our own health scares and are committed to leading a healthy lifestyle. We love to bounce ideas back and forth about how we can share these healthier raw food ideas with others and it’s now becoming a wider family exploration, with cousins wanting to know more about how to get started with healthier food.

In celebration of my mum and sister then, I made a quick and simple Jamaican inspired carrot juice. So delicious, one bag of carrots was not enough and I made a second batch! Sunday’s were never  Sunday’s in a traditional Jamaican household without Nat King Cole and carrot juice with dinner.

All in all, remembering the past with love and light has made this particular Sunday, one I wanted to share with you, while looking forward to the rest of Diwali in the coming few days. Great time just to share with family, friends and community.

I tend to use ingredients proportionate to my own preferred taste. So start off with a little ginger and spices and add more if required. I used one bag of carrots (10 carrots), 2inches fresh ginger, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg… try it and see how you get on.
